چکیده
We study the generation of a gravitational wave (GW) background produced from a population of core-collapse supernovae, which form black holes in scenarios of structure formation of the Universe. We obtain, for example, that a pre-galactic population of black holes, formed at redshifts z ≃ 30 − 10, could generate a stochastic GW background with a maximum amplitude of h BG ≃ 10 −24 in the frequency band ν obs ≃ 30 − 470Hz (considering a maximum efficiency of generation of GWs, namely, ε GW = 7 × 10 −4). In particular, we discuss what astrophysical information could be obtained from a positive, or even a negative, detection of such a GW background produced in scenarios such as those studied here. One of them is the possibility of obtaining the initial and final redshifts of the emission period from the observed spectrum of GWs.

A D3− brane with non-zero energy density is considered as the boundary of a five dimensional Schwarzschild anti de Sitter bulk background. Taking into account the semi-classical corrections to the black hole entropy that arise as a result of the self-gravitational effect, and employing the AdS/CFT correspondence, we obtain the self-gravitational correction to the first Friedmann-like equation. ...

We study the head-on collision of fluid particles well within the kinetic energy dominated regime (γ = 8 to 12) by numerically solving the Einstein-hydrodynamic equations. We find that the threshold for black hole formation is lower (by a factor of a few) than simple hoop conjecture estimates, and, moreover, near this threshold two distinct apparent horizons first form postcollision and then me...

We report on a search for gravitational waves from binary black hole inspirals in the data from the second science run of the LIGO interferometers. The search focused on binary systems with component masses between 3 and 20 M⊙. Optimally oriented binaries with distances up to 1 Mpc could be detected with efficiency of at least 90%. We found no events that could be identified as gravitational wa...

We find the general solution for the spacetimes describing the interior of static black holes with an equation of state of the type T 0 0 = T 1 1 (T being the stress-energy tensor). This form is the one expected from taking into account different quantum effects associated with strong gravitational fields. We recover all the particular examples found in the literature. We remark that all the so...

We explore the obsevability of extra dimensions through 5-dimensional squashed Kaluza-Klein black holes residing in the Kaluza-Klein spacetime. With the expectation that the Hawking radiation reflects the 5-dimensional nature of the squashed horizon, we study the Hawking radiation of a scalar field in the squashed black hole background. As a result, we show that the luminosity of Hawking radiat...
